William Matthias - for a short time only

A cracking 2nd ever performance of the William Matthias Violin Concerto broadcast on Radio 3 this afternoon. With Matthew Trusler (violin) and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes.  Taken from a concert at St Asaph on Sunday 29th of September.

It's an appealing, invigorating work as accessible as Prokofiev and has much of the toccata like brilliance in the quality of the writing.  It is 35 minutes long and well worth your time, while it's available on iPlayer.  Thereafter you'll have to wait for the third performance of the work which was premiered in 1992 the year of Matthias tragically early death.
